Got Cabin Fever? February Agriculture Programming eNews

Got cabin fever? Here are programs to rid the winter blues!

As we are "enjoying" winter moisture that may be a pain now but a benefit to crops and soil later in the year, we need to think about what else we can accomplish before planting season.

Beef School - The final installment of the school will be held on Feb. 24 for Clermont and Brown counties at the Southern Hills Career and Technical Center Board Office in Georgetown, Ohio. Dr. Monique Pairis-Garcia and Dr. Steve Boyles, both of the OSU Department of Animal Sciences, will discuss "Beef Animal Handling and Facility Design." Videos will be used to demonstrate the positive and negative aspects of animal behavior, and they will discuss how facilities can improve animal handling concerns. Dr. Bill Weiss, OSU Department of Animal Sciences, will also address "Forage Evaluation and Making Quality Dry Hay, Balage, and Silage."

Farm Bill – Feb. 27 is the deadline to make your yield updates and acreage reallocations. If you have not completed this to date, please call the Brown/Clermont Farm Service Agency at 937-378-6173 (Monday thru Friday) or call 513-732-2181 (Tuesday and Wednesday only) to make your appointment . Your final Program Choice (ARC-CO, ARC-IC or PLC) must be completed by March 31, 2015. Please help the office personnel by NOT waiting to the last minute.

Farm and Family Night – March 10 is the 6th Annual Farm and Family Night at Maysville Community and Technical College. Pesticide Recertification and Fertilizer Certification – The Clermont County recertification for current licensed private pesticide applicators is March 17. Fertilizer certification begins at 4 p.m., followed by a light meal at 6 p.m., and pesticide recertification begins at 6:30 p.m. You must register at pested.osu.edu or call 513-732-7070 for further information.
