Do You Have Food $ense

On January 25, 2018, the Ohio State University Extension Office of Family and Consumer Sciences and SNAP-Ed in Clermont County, had the privilege of presenting at the Ohio State’s 2018 Community Engagement Conference.  The presentation consisted of our program, “Do You Have Food $ense: Utilizing Community Partnerships to Reduce Food Insecurity and Improve Health Behaviors”.

During this program we worked with the Emmanuel United Methodist Church Food Pantry where we offered free classes on how to select & prepare meals to help stretch our food dollars and eat for better health.  With this partnership we were also able to help provide sessions with food preparation, tastings, and take-home recipes.  During the class, participants were able to earn cooking tools and a $25 gift card.  For participants to participate, they had to meet the eligibility requirements of SNAP (Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program.)  The program was a success with approximately 20 Clermont County residents.  The participants of the class have said “I love this class, we need to have it next year” and “this class has taught me things I never would have known”.

Thank you Clermont County for your support and allowing us to continue to provide your residents with educational programming.
