Master Gardener Volunteer Program
The 2010 Ohio State University Extension Master Gardener Program is a volunteer educational program designed to meet the horticultural needs of citizens of Ohio.
The Master Gardener Program is a program for people from all backgrounds who love to: Garden, Enjoy nature, Share their knowledge, Learn more about horticulture, Form friendships, Volunteer in their communities and Have Fun!!!
The purpose is to train volunteers and to utilize their expertise to teach people more about plants, their culture, their importance to the environment and to our quality of life.
How Do You Become A Master Gardener?
- Complete 50 hours of horticultural education taught by OSU Extension educators, professors, and specialists. The classroom sessions are held one day a week and the reasonable fee covers all course materials, including a comprehensive gardening manual.
- Pass (70%) a 300 questions, open book, open note test that you have one month to complete.
- Complete 50 hours of volunteer service in horticultural education in Clermont County
Master Gardener Mission
** To meet monthly to continue our horticultural education through field trips, garden tours, and special speakers:
** To Plan and complete a yearly project in Clermont County.
** To hold a plant sale for the Community each May.
** To help to host programs and to answer gardening questions.
** To individually complete 6 approved education hours yearly,
** To individually complete 10 approved volunteer hours each year.
Training that is offered
OSU faculty and other experts provide training in a wide range of pertinent horticultural topics including:
** Growth and care of vegetables, herbs, and fruits
** Lawn care, soils, and fertilizers
** Plant pathology and propagation
** Perennials, annuals, bulbs and house plants
** Insects and pesticides
** Trees and Shrubs
