What's New?

Assessing Impact of Drought on Corn Pollination

The extent of the drought on yield will be determined over the period of pollination. Instead of waiting 1.5 weeks post pollination for development of kernels to the blister stage, the CORN newsletter provides a more rapid technique to check the status of pollination.

For more information, see the CORN article and the referenced article from Purdue that includes pictures.

Tips for Chopping Corn and Soybeans for Silage

If your corn or soybeans is not going to make harvestable yield or quality, consider partnering with local cattle producers to use it for silage. The Beef Newsletter provides these tips to help producers get silage off to a good start.

Producers Should Scout Fields for Spider Mites on Soybeans

With the hot and dry conditions, there are perfect conditions for two-spotted spider mites. There have been reports in Clermont County and producers should begin scouting. While the mites can be difficult to find, the injury they cause on leaves is fairly distinct. Look for a stipling effect or yellowing of the leaves.
